Banana Eats infection mode is an alternate survival game mode in RyCitrus's Roblox horror game where a single bite transforms runners into killer bananas. Unlike the standard Escape mode, exits never open during Infection; runners must survive until the clock reaches zero, while the banana team wins if every player is turned.

To keep matches balanced as the banana horde multiplies, every newly infected player permanently reduces the movement speed of all bananas on the map.

Core Rules and Infection Mechanics

Infection mode was added to Banana Eats in the July 31, 2021 update. While it shares core movement and puzzle systems with the base game, several foundational rules change:

  • Single-Hit Conversions: Runners do not possess the standard three hearts. Getting bitten once instantly infects the runner and converts them into a banana surrounded by floating bubbles.
  • Permanent Speed Debuffs: Every time a runner is infected, the game announces that bananas have been slowed. The more bananas roaming the map, the slower every banana moves.
  • Disabled Traps: Bananas cannot drop banana peels or place trap hazards during Infection rounds.
  • Closed Exits: Exit doors remain locked throughout the match. Runners win solely by surviving until the round timer runs out.
  • No Death Timer Penalties: In default Escape rounds, eliminated players add 15 seconds to the match clock. In Infection mode, infecting a runner does not grant bonus time to the bananas.
  • Disconnection Handling: If an infected player leaves the server mid-game, the remaining bananas regain a proportional amount of speed.

How the Banana Speed Scaling Works

At the start of an Infection match, the solitary alpha banana moves faster than runners, just like in a standard round. However, the game's infection scaling systematically shifts the balance of power.

Once two or three runners are converted, the entire banana team suffers noticeable speed drops. In full servers with multiple infected players, bananas become strictly slower than running survivors. Because individual bananas cannot catch up in a straight chase against an unhindered runner, the infected team must transition from solo pursuit to coordinated pincer movements.

When playing as a banana in a late-game infection round:

  1. Cut off escape hallways: Do not trail directly behind a runner. Because runners move faster than multiple bananas, chasing from behind will not work.
  2. Pincer doorways and vents: Coordinate with other bananas to approach rooms and corridors from opposing entry points.
  3. Block exits to tight zones: Wait near high-traffic intersections or outside narrow vent crawlspaces while another banana flushes the runner out.

Runner Survival Strategies

Because runners cannot rely on three hit points to survive mistakes, avoiding contact takes priority over risky puzzle completion.

1. Prioritize Puzzles Early

Completing standard puzzles (such as valves, image match boards, and number codes) trims 30 seconds off the round timer, while completing the 7-slice cake puzzle removes 60 seconds. Knocking out puzzles while only one banana is roaming drastically reduces the total time survivors have to dodge a multiplying horde.

2. Monitor the Sensor Beacon

The beacon mounted on your runner's back shifts color and pulses faster as a banana draws closer. When a banana is right next to you, the camera shakes. If your beacon flares, leave the area immediately rather than attempting to finish an ongoing puzzle interaction. Note that multi-story maps like Banana Manor can occasionally trigger the beacon glitch, where a banana on an alternate floor causes false proximity readings.

3. Use Crawlspaces and Vents Wisely

Because bananas cannot place peeling traps in Infection mode, crawlspaces and low vents are safer than usual. You can duck into crawlspaces without the fear of hitting a stun trap on the other side. However, remember that infected bananas can communicate or spot you entering a dead-end vent, easily setting up an ambush at the exit.

4. Leverage Late-Game Speed Advantages

If you are among the final 1 or 2 survivors facing 6 or 7 bananas, stay mobile in open sections of the map. Bananas at this stage are much slower than your base running speed. Keep sightlines clear, avoid running into dead-end rooms, and circle wide corridors until the remaining time expires.

Banana Eats Infection FAQ

Why are bananas so slow in Infection mode?

The game automatically slows down all active bananas each time a new player is infected. This mechanic prevents large hordes from overwhelming the surviving runners instantly.

Can bananas place traps or peels in Infection mode?

No. All peel traps are disabled in Infection mode, as well as in Banana Split mode.

Do exit doors open in Infection mode?

No. Exits do not unlock during Infection rounds. The only way for runners to win is by keeping at least one survivor alive until the match timer hits zero.

Do infected players gain XP?

Yes. Playing as an infected banana still grants experience points when teammates land bites, and runners gain XP for puzzles solved and time survived prior to infection.
